Registrations are now open for an International symposium will be run in Canberra, Australia, 1-4 March 2011. This event is supported by the IFLA Library and Research Services for Parliaments Section, Centre for Democratic Institutions (CDI) at the Australian National University, APLA and other organisations.

Activities will include:

  1. Information sharing sessions focused on developing ICT knowledge and skills and service delivery
  2. A three day symposium/conference with sessions including:
    1. formal presentations by clients and stakeholders from the region;
    2. Presentations on topics of interest including innovations in ANZ Parliaments in research and library services;
    3. Presentations on assessing client needs and implementing new services;
  3. A meeting of the Association of Parliamentary Librarians of Asia and the Pacific (APLAP) to build networks; and
  4. An Association of Parliamentary Libraries of Australasia (APLA) meeting.

The events aim to:

  1. Assist in the development of parliamentary libraries and research services by providing an opportunity for sharing information, knowledge and experiences;
  2. Encourage the strengthening of parliamentary libraries and research services within the region and their parliaments;
  3. Support the development of innovation through sharing information on innovative practices;
  4. Build the capacity of staff through training in information technology and service delivery; and
  5. Strengthen the cooperation between the Section and the Global Centre for ICT in Parliaments, Association of Secretaries General of Parliaments (ASGP), Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) and Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU).
